Near Capri town is the Charterhouse of St. Giacomo, which has foundations dating back to 1371 and believed to have been constructed on the remains of an ancient Roman villa belonging to Tiberius. It features many objects of architectural interest, such as stucco work dating back to the 1600’s, marble with base relief figures and fresco’s dating to the end of the 14th century. Next to the Cloister is the Refectory or Diefenbach Room, which now houses a museum featuring Roman statues retrieved from the sea floor of the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto), as well as paintings from the German artist Wilhelm Diefenbach, who lived on the island for many years.

Alternatively, in Anacapri, you can take the chair lift near Piazza Vittoria up Mount Solaro, from where you can enjoy the beautiful view of Anacapri and the Bay of Naples. There are bars and terraces on the top as well as the ruins of the “Fortino di Bruto”, a blockhouse built in the 19th century and the small church of Santa Maria a Cetrella.
